These are the three wires the one on the right is bare and doesn't plug into the plug at all. Should I isolate them just up to the injectors or trace it all the way back?

Make sure they're not grounding to one another.

i pulled the harness out from the firewall and completely exposed the wiring. i followed the knock sensor wiring all the way to the ecu plug and can not see anything wrong with them. i'm debating just going and pulling a wiring harness at the wrecking yard and just swapping it out.

I don't know. Try leaving the knock sensor unplugged and see what happens.
