Uconnect problem after update
Hi All, I collected my vehicle yesterday, the uconnect 8.4an is now updated to version 17, but still has the guidelines missing, but atleast the reverse camera comes on when switching to reverse, the menu options seems to look slightly different. I have been looking videos and it shows that doing a factory reset on the radio could fix the issue bringing back the guidelines, the dealer wasn't familiar with this. When you hold in the left side hot and cold buttons in simultaneously for between 5-10 seconds with the vehicle in 'Run' it takes you to engineering mode, there is a factory reset button, I haven't done it yet, I'm not sure if this would help or what will happen?
There are lots of complaint about this over on the Wrangler forums as well. Some claim holding power and tune for 15-seconds to force a reboot fixes it. It also looks like letting the radio finish booting before you immediately jump into reverse make a difference too. I've noticed mine acts a little weird right after startup since the last update, for example a 5-10 second delayed reaction to turning the volume ****.
i read a TSB on this subject. my gma has never had a update prompt on hers 17. not a fully equipped car tho. my other gma has an 18 which had bricked her ability to use defrost in cold weather the buttons didnt respond and the screeen was on a update prompt but no functions would work or anything. she had it fixed by a flash update which bypasses interface and puts the update into the computer by way of dealer pass through device. If your update is fine working and its just acting annoying, you have become a victim to a low quality system and Im sorry. 2015 wouldnt have warranty but they kinda made them better in a couple years because its kinda unacccpetbale to not work.
The menus are slow, the camera at start is sluggy, the HVAC slider is laggy. Buttons false press even with noise to signal it understood your press... I use it as minimally possible, i survey behind the car when entering and need to back and YOLO till cam works, I keep cam clean because my god it takes nothing and its blurry. i wish everyone else good luck, i use the hvac buttons when i can and the volume ****, and I turn the screen off when its not doing anything i need because my luck pixels will be burning out and it will have dead spots in touch so its possibly going to help. at least it wont annoy me with its clutter and mess when im not looking ati t.
I really think they missed the punch with this uconnect touch screen but its at least not a gm from that early 2010s or a ford miniscreen thats 2 miles away and all touch and buttons are a joke mix but the screen being the 4x3 at your arm extension reach is... no.

Finally got my UConnect problems resolved. After visiting the dealership and letting them do their thing, l was told that the unit was toast and would have to be replaced. The cost of the unit was over $1100 plus installation costs. Figuring l was going to be on the hook for the cost, l went ahead and told the dealership to go ahead and order the new unit. Later that day, l was thinking about it and really, l hadn't done anything except follow UConnect's instructions to the letter. I called the UConnect Customer Service number and spoke to one of their reps and related the whole story of my misadventures with the unit. He told me that they had had several problems with the update and he was going to escalate my case to Case Management. A few days later, I got a call from the case manager assigned to my case and she told me that after review Chrysler/UConnect would pay for the unit and its installation. Woo Hoo!!! Christmas in June!! Had the unit installed and everything works perfectly. I owe a lot of thanks to the folks at Jeep Customer Care and Uconnect Customer Care especially my Case Manager who did a lot to get this done.
