is there a trailer hitch?

if not, i wouldn't go attaching a chain or rope to anything under the car. you're likely to wrap it around the rear trailing arms, which could cause a very expensive repair. or anything to do with suspension. the axle is not a recovery option. neither is sway bar, or anything not directly attached to the frame for that matter.

i would just find someone with AAA or get your own and call a tow truck. every vehicle has reinforced slots in the frame for tow truck operators to fix a proper hook into, for recovery. if you don't know which slots/holes are for this, then i wouldn't go guessing. you can tear your frame very easily.

It has to be towed forward not from the rear. I did call the Chrysler roadside assistance. They are going to tow it. Actually it just needs a winch to pull it a few feet forward off of the ice that it stuck on.
I posted this because at first they told me it wouldn't be covered because it was more than 10 ft from the paved road but then I called back again and told them that that didn't make sense because it's in a hotel parking lot.

One of the reasons I had a question about this is that at one time a Jeep dealer had a off-road kind of event it was mostly for wranglers but there was some Cherokees there including mine. I got stuck in some mud and they said it couldn't be towed which didn't make any sense. They said they would show me how to get it out. They could have towed it a few feet with another Jeep, but they wanted to make a demonstration out of it. I was able to get it out myself by using the snow mode which worked better than the low range that they said to use.

I'm not as familiar with new model Cherokees as I am with older ones. But does yours come with the screw in eye bolt that goes in your bumper?

Should be in your tool kit if so.

I'll look into that.
the tow truck was able to hook up to the frame and winch me out.
If anyone knows if the 2019 Cherokee can use those please post.

Oh, how embarrassing being stuck in a parking lot of all places. I keep a small collapsible shovel in the Jeep for those rare times I get stuck in deeper snow offroad. Usually a little digging in front of the wheels or under the middle of the Jeep if I'm high centered gets me out. If you plan to do any off-roading, tow hooks are a good investment.

The problem was that the way it was plowed they pushed the snow too far past the edge of the parking lot. There was a slope that looked flat when it was plowed. When I backed up into it the back wheels sank into the soft snow deeper than I knew. Even digging out the front wheels wouldn't have helped. Also it couldn't be rocked because it was close to the snow bank that was plowed so the sensors locked the brake on the rear wheels.
Anyway the tow coverage that comes with the car got it out.
They called that kind of shovel an Entrenching Tool in the army. I'll get one.

Ouch. I got stuck that way going up to a ski resort once. I moved over for a school bus coming towards me in the middle of the road. The plow had leveled the snow well past the edge of the road and my right side tires dropped off the edge. I was spinning the left tires and trying not to roll the rest of the way off the road and down the very steep hill. Fortunately I had a winch and could pull myself back onto the road, but I was blocking traffic for about 15-minutes with the winch cable, while a second busload of people stared at me the whole time.
