Default Sirius. Seriously?

A question on the scan button got me thinking about this. During my test drive with the dealer one of the things he pointed out was how Sirius cuts out all the time where I live. He has been in touch with the company and has been told flat out that we are SOL. Mountain regions, particularly in Western Canada will cut out because they block the signal from the satellite situated way in the south. Dealer even recommended not purchasing the subscription after the free one year runs out because of this. And I highly agree altho I have to say I probably will never pay for it anyway. Too bad they couldn't spend some of their gazillions on putting a satellite in the north hemisphere region.
But, I have also been listening to Serious's different categories and am finding what they have done is the same old format of a limited number of songs per category that you hear over and over again. If there are categories out there that will give you a wider listening experience I have yet to discover it.
And a question. Do Rocky Mountain States also have the cut out problem?

It's less if a cost issue, and more of a fact that it would be extremely difficult to do.

Currently they have their satellites at the equator and they may move up and down because of just a few degrees of inclination in its orbit. If they were to move the satellite to have an orbit with enough eccentricity to pass directly over Canada, the satellite would be that far south for the other half of its orbit. This leads to dead spots you have to fill with more satellites. In the end to add your specific area would lead to a 2x-3x increase in the number of satellites.

I live in Chattanooga TN, fairly large city..and right in the heart of downtown you cannot get Sirius to come in.

Also, it seems like there is a constant rotation of about 30 songs per radio station...very annoying.

I assume there are a lot of tall buildings around you? I agree there is very little variety.

I guess you are talking about tall buildings, Xj? I imagine Manhattan Isl's skyscratchers eliminates a lot of reception. Bet Howard Stern's pissed.

I use it in MI and have no problem since we're a pretty flat state. Under bridges it cuts out and through tunnels as well. I have the full package and yes it's about the same songs on every radio station, but it works nicely as there is over 100 of music channels. Granite there are some that I don't listen to like the 50's, 60's, 70's, and 80's and country stuff. But I drive all day so I can always just bounce around on what I wanna hear.

I have since switched from Iphone to Galaxy 6s Active.

My phone is my radio. Hundreds of stations to choose from from around the country.......I listen to talk radio mainly.

Sirius can nibble at my left nut.

Here in the mountains I rarely if ever loose a signal.
The world is my onion.
