Off Roading Your KL
I'd like to remind those excited new KL owners who want to take their vehicles off road to PLEASE wheel responsibly. That means off roading only where legal, staying on designated trails, pack in/pack out, pick up any litter you see on the trail, and remember, you are a steward of our sport. We have worked very hard to keep land and private parks opened. Be responsible, be safe, and enjoy yourself out there.

A good "wheeling" friend of mine just got one for his wife. Whether we twist his arm or we steal his keys, we fully intend to get it on the rocks one way or another. But it's a lease, so we can't get to crazy with it. It was in the U.P. over Christmas playing in the snow, so maybe I will have pictures of it off-road before Spring....stay tuned......

How am I supposed to know if a place is legal or not? I pull off the road basically anywhere I see a break in a fence that leads to a pasture or field, not private property, usually gov. property, utility access roads, I never tear anything up though, you wouldn't even know I was there.

The best option is to join a local 4x4 club. We have clubs out here who rent/own their own land to wheel on and it's members only. They would also know where it's legal to ride and should have group trail rides so many times a year.
The biggest thing is if you don't know if a place is legal to wheel at, assume it isn't. Ignorance of the law is never an excuse.

Not all .gov property is open for OHV use and if there's a break in a fence, I would assume you're trespassing onto someone's property. You would be best to contact your local agencies (like DNR) to see where you can legally go.

Up here the OF4WD works closely with OFSC (snowmobiles), utilities agencies, and the provincial police to coordinate on some areas and establish what's legal for public use, and some times land owner consent to specific purposes.
Many areas you may think are "public" could be environmentally sensitive, or easements on private land to which a utility has a right of way. This is a big issue with wheeling along power lines and train tracks as a lot of the land is actually private.

A couple of KL's are starting to get off-road

These things seem pretty nice offroad. The Trailhawks got my vote for what it can do. Still dislike the others lol
