I have a very well maintained 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Wk2 and the check engine just came on which was triggered by a P0741 code (Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Performance/Stuck Off). However, I have no other problems, no sounds, no smells, nothing is overheating, transmission fluid is clean and at the right level, the Jeep is not handling or shifting differently, no slipping, and it is not idling incorrectly or shaking. It runs as if it is new. Has anyone ever had this happen? Does anyone know what could cause this code without any symptoms?
I would suspect a bad solenoid or wiring to the transmission, and not a valve body. You may not notice the torque converter locking up, and just higher than normal rpm when it's not locking up.
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and that’s exactly what I was thinking. Solenoid or wiring since it’s not showing any other symptoms and drives perfectly. Have you seen any diy videos or walkthroughs for replacing the solenoid? Or do you happen to know if it is complicated job and requires a mechanic? I’ve been searching for a few days and found absolutely nothing. And thanks for letting me know about the Grand forum.
I have not worked on the Chrysler transmissions on the Grands, just the Aisin-Warner transmissions on the regular Cherokees. If it's similar, you have to remove the oil pan from the transmission to access the solenoids. It's not a difficult job, just messy. You should be able to measure the resistance of the solenoid with a meter, which usually gives an indication of whether it's going bad. If you have a code reader, I would try clearing the codes and see if it comes back as it might just be an intermittent problem.
