Default Breaks Issue on new 2016 Cherokee Latitude Issue

Car is scheduled to go into the dealer, but I'd like your opinions in the meantime.

Brand new car, 2016 Cherokee Latitude FWD.

I noticed and my wife noticed without me saying anything that the breaks feel soft/mushy. Pressing the break pedal gets firm and starts to slow the car but the breaks are not really grabbing and slowing down the car fast enough. I have to push a lot more pressure down on the pedal after the pedal already feels firm to get the car to stop in situations of a quick stop. After the car stops there IS still room to push the pedal down.

This was noticed first when I had to make a somewhat sudden stop. For a split second got a flush of nervousness when the car wasn't stopping as I'm use to with all the other cars I've driven. Pushing harder on the pedal was required. It isn't like the breaks aren't working at all.

Ideas?

Air in the line? Fresh off the truck, what's likely the issue?

I did test drive the car but at slow speeds and gradual breaking. Only concern for me was my wife was driving it with our infant. Till the breaks are checked it's off limits to her.

Thanks for your comments.

Sometimes it takes brakes 200-500 miles of city-type driving to seat in fully.

Take it to the dealer and let them deal with it. No sense messing with it if it is covered. Peace of mind too.
