Default Adding Backup Camera to 2014 Cherokee

Hello,

I am trying to add a backup camera to my wife’s Jeep Cherokee. The head unit is a RA3. I pulled the dash and radio out however I didn’t see any video RCA input connector.

Any suggestions?

I contacted tech support for the manufacturer (www.infotainment.com) and finally got a real answer. That's after visiting 2 Best Buy stores, calling several dealerships and finally calling the maker.

If you have a radio that doesn't already have a camera or has the harness....basically you'll have to purchase a) the wiring harness that has the video input (yellow RCA cable) and then get the unit programmed. If the head unit doesn't have the video input already, the one you add/purchase has to be also programmed. Wonderful that the OEM doesn't activate that input channel by default on all decks so that you have to pay more.

How do you get the radio programmed? Really only two options....

1) Go to a dealership and pay to get it programmed. (BTW - the dealers I called didn't know anything about this)
2) Purchase the programming device from the manufacturer. Fun fact - the rep that I talked to described the process as - "either you can go to a dealer and pay a ton or pay $130 for the programming unit, plug it in, hit a button and wait 30 seconds..."

So, here's the link to purchase:
  1. If you just need the wiring harness (C4T RCA Camera Input Harness) - https://www.infotainment.com/product...nt=22069838791
  2. If you need the harness and programmer (OBD Genie Chrysler Dodge Jeep Rear View Camera Programmer C-RVC) - https://www.infotainment.com/product...nt=22067446727

I believe the video signal wires are in the black connector, and there is no separate video connector. Have you looked in the tailgate to see if the the wiring is already there? The other threads I've seen also say the RA3 can be enabled to show the video. I noticed in your picture the insulation on one of the wires looks damaged.

Personally, the oem camera leaves a lot to be desired but still way better than the tiny ones on the rear view mirror. It doesn't do well in low light, and it's location collects dirt and dust very quickly. The camera in my kids Honda Fit is fantastic. 3 selectable views, including a wide angle that you can see both ways down the parking aisle when backing out of a parking space.

One of the lavendar wires is split. You can see the strands. Check the rest for any damage before you install anything.

Some possibly helpful info. The Dealer or Engineering modes might have an option to enable the camera on reverse.
https://www.ramforum.com/threads/inf...-na-uax.73871/

* Dealer Mode (Use this to identify your Radio's P/N and S/N !)
.. Hold Hot+Cold+Front defrost buttons for 5 seconds

* Engineering Mode
.. Hold Hot+cold+buttons for 5 seconds

* Screen Calibration
* How to save a screenshot to USBdrive

* Vehicle Shipping Mode (Reference Only, Not recommended)
.. Front Defrost + Browse/Enter for 5 seconds

Has some links to PDFs of the radio pinout so you can see if the wiring is already in the connector or add you own pins.
