So my son bought one of these off his in-laws because of low mileage and fair price. We knew going in that tranny is iffy in these and of course it’s acting up. It’s especially bad before it gets warmed up. rd shifting, not wanting to shift etc…. It has the 2.4 AWD and ZF trans. He changed all the fluids and thought maybe it helped for awhile the transshop couldn’t find anything wrong. We are long time Jeep family but first KL. Is there a fix for these? Is it a dead in the water issue if it gets worse, do they run forever operating poorly? He’s kind of in a pickle , owing money, young pregnant wife new mortgage. Dad is trying to help on the knowledge end. Thanks guys and Merry Christmas.

 

if the transmission is having issues you're better off just replacing it with a transmission from a newer model I've seen them for sale between $400 and $600 on the cheap end. then you just need to worry about finding a shop that will swap it out at a reasonable price or unless you guys feel comfortable doing it yourself.

I have a 2015 2.4 with 78K miles on it and I haven't had any issues with the transmission, but it's also just the front wheel drive version.
