2014 Trailhawk

People keep talking about the XJ like it is the end all of vehicles. here is the problem, the nice ones are getting hard to find and when you do find one people want stupid money for them. I don't care if it does only have 50k on it it's still 13 years old at best and good luck finding someone to loan you money on a 13 year old car. Not everyone has a pile of cash laying around to just go pay someone 13 grand. Some people care about warranties etc. I don't think it is a bad car, maybe it is not right for you but then again maybe it's just what someone else wants or needs. I do wish more suvs were still body on frame or at least solid axle but hey what can you do. I do think the price is a bit high on the new cherokee but then again I don't think many cars are worth what the companies are asking for them, when did $50k become a small amount of money?

Kl low water crossing a no go!!!
ok, here goes im no stranger to jeep.. had 96 xj and 08 jk..
be careful in your KL do not go through LOW Water in any situation..
before you see any water spread im talking below bumper.. it will go through the lower fascia? or grill thing and straight up into the intake..
also.. something nearly caught on fire also.
i have submarined my 96 no problems.. i have buried my wrangler.. no problems..
i HAVE NEVER been stranded by a jeep in any situation i have went into having fun! splashing around! etc..
i was not doing anything stupid. im sure someone will heckle me instead of heading a warning.
. my cousin has a low water crossing in his drive way.. hes taken a chevy cavalier across it no problems.. the problem is
the fascia acts as a water scoop! the bumper is useless.. and their is nothing in the middle to keep it from acting like a bull dozer blade..
but its the scalding hot wires and melted fuse box im concerned about..
also.. im a little mad.. thinking about if i acctually busted a water hole in the middle of no where in my TRAIL RATED KL. and had this happen..
as it stands.. this thing does not deserve a trail rated anything..
it goes great but this was was nothing. even the tow truck drivers were saying.. a jeep anything should not be having issues in this shallow water..
i didnt buy mine to stay on the highway.. i got it to do what they said it will do and have a little comfort on the side..
take note... trails where i live have creeks..

I am stationed in Fort Polk Louisiana. Swamps, alligators, swamps, pine trees, swamps, sand, swamps, triple canopy forest, swamps, mosquito is the state bird, oh, did i mention the swamps? I had my 98 XJ, stock except for 2 inch lift and biggest tires before you measure them in inches, on a muddy/sandy fire road in the jungle down here one day. I decided to cross a creek that appeared to be no more than 18 inches deep. I gave it a little juice so I would skip across a little instead of sink. Half way across I hit something solid(I suspect a submerged log) on the bottom, and was sitting in water that came 6" up the side of my doors. I had no forward movement at all, no matter how far I stuck my toenails in the carburetor. I started to panic cause some of these creeks have quick sand in the bottom of them. I slammed it in reverse, stomped the pedal, and she backed right out all the way back to the shore line. Only thing i had to do was dig the mud out of the wheels cause it was so heavy it gave me death wobble when i got back to the highway. If anybody on Fort Polk or in the Leesville LA area has a 2014 KL trail hawk and wants to see if they can make it across the same creek, pm me. Be glad to watch you trash your new Aztec/Fiat halfbreed. Just get out and run if you get stuck cause sometimes at night I hear banjo music down here...

Death of a Trailhawk
ok, the ram air design that is linked to the hi air system on the 2.4
will allow water to roll up into that pocket, at a maintained speed, current could have been a major player in what happened with mine.
no other Cherokee i seen on the lot had the same design, i wouldnt have had water sucked into the intake unchecked.
their was no water in the oil, but it hydro locked it.
mind you this was not rough. and about 15 inches deep.. kinda swift current.
the vechichle shut down as i was coming up and out, i accelerated for about a 26 degree incline. that could have caused the water to roll.. back pressure from land?
so take caution before you test your trailhawks metal, and disconnect that extra air tube that connects the air box to the ram air before you decide to test its ability to hit a trail.. (i was in a driveway that has a low water crossing its flat rock bottom) just 35-40 yards wide.
i may be the first, but i wont be the last..
