Default 2014 Jeep Cherokee Toad Brake Gotcha

Jeep has designed the 2014 Cherokee with RV towing in mind - with one oversight. There is no easy or safe way to run wires through the firewall in order to install the toad braking system.

When checking with my Jeep dealer and Camping World I was informed the only way through the firewall was to make cuts on both sides of the main electrical boot. The boot is tough to cut and full of wires. On the engine side the boot is impossible to cut with any finesse or accuracy - it is buried.

In my case I managed to cut some wires inside the boot - this resulted in a $1600 repair bill to replace the harness.

My dealer was appalled there was not a better way to run wires and suggested I contact Jeep Corporate customer service. Jeep understood the issue and said they would report it to engineering. However they did not consider it a problem because they have not had any complaints! So I had to foot the bill myself.

If you contact Jeep the case number is 25006265.

Good luck and be careful!! And happy towing.

Default Brand of brake system

I also have issues with my axillary brake system, I used a US Gear Unified Tow Brake installed by the dealership and have had nothing but problems, solenoid didn't work out of the box then the vacuum pump went out on the first trip out and the vacuum pump has never put out enough to operate the brake system as it should.

File it in "Jeep Cherokee KL Issues , Complaints & Case Numbers"

Metalwonzero is the spokesperson, so when you show up with torches put him up front lol

Jeep needs to make a serious recovery from what they are doing.

I haven't had any problems with the RoadMaster Brake Master system. I also had a Universal Tow Daddy installed for the light system. Camping World did the install, the only issue was the installer did not have a proper electrical background to under stand the very easy install instructions. I would have also liked him to mad the wire splices inside the car vice actually at the lights. Yes it would have required about 30 more minutes of work but would have saved the time in rework that I had to do. I am debating on changing to the Stealth system just to make the car compatible with any MH.

For flat towing my XJ i purchased a Brake Buddy. Didnt need to run wires thru the firewall, unit is portable, can be used in any vehicle. It meets all the regulations for towing. No installation costs.
