Hey guys. I am the owner of a 2003 KJ and have been looking into getting an XJ as my toy/ not every day driver. Last week I picked up a 2000 XJ Sport for my brother. He is stationed in Korea until August and he has been looking at getting another XJ to start building. I found one a few miles from me and he liked it so I picked it up. 182k miles, automatic, 4x4, power windows and locks. 2 inch lift, Rancho RS5000X. Its pretty solid and rust free and doesn't appear to have been thrashed.
Before he gets back I have a few things I am going to fix for him and so I can drive it around and see if I truly want an XJ. Like replace all 4 fender flares that are missing.
The driver window doesn't want to respond to the switch. I have researched and found that could be a broken wire or even bad contact on that switch. All other windows work from the main switch .
Next issue is that the rear brake line is worn out and seeping so I am going to replace all those and flush the system to make it safer to drive.
Then there is the ever so fun death wobble at about 45-50mph. If i speed up it goes away, slow down it goes away. The kid I bought if from said it started after the lift. So i am going to look at getting an alignment and tires balanced and inspect for any signs of wear on the front steering/ suspension to see if I can detect where anything may be moving at.
Aside from those, a deep clean and nice waxing she is pretty decent. Looking forward to being on here and learning some things and hopefully after this getting my own XJ to toy around with.
