Newbie looking to buy one
Hey guys n' gals,
I live here in sunshiny Florida and a local is selling their 1999 Jeep Cherokee. It is a nice purdy red four door, 4.0 and they are selling for right around $3,200. They have cleaned it up nice and as one of my friends long ago had a white one, which saved his family from a drunk driving accident, I am looking to replace my wife's ailing Hyundai elantra.
I'm pretty dang good at turning wrenches (retired AF C-130 engine mech) so i'm not afraid to get my paws greasy.
All i'm asking is a helping hand on the little querks and tweeks i'll need to do with a 17 year old six cylinder.
Feed me, i'm hungry!
Thanks tons....

Wow, just checked the local face book buy and sell and they dropped the price to $2700. Guess i'll be going to check it out tomorrow!
I currently have a few motorcycles and a 2000 F150 4X (don't razz me too bad) with 219,000 on it.
I was just looking around and seen the ad, hoping some of you folks can fill me in on what I should be looking for, as in "knuckle problems, engine faults, ect.." (not saying the Cherokee has them, but i'd like to know what to look for)
Thanks for the welcome!

They are worth it, and good luck!
The members and this site is really helpful for everyone seeking knowledge, regardless of your skills or lack of skills (me). I'm working on a few things because of these guys and the only thing I have ever done is change a tire.

Its a 2X..... not sure i'm interested in paying the $2700, when Kelly BB says at best in Very Good condition it should be $1750 from a private seller.... that's a grand different.

All 4x4 XJs have a manual lever for engaging 4x4 mode, and both available transfer cases have "shift on the fly" 4x4 mode.
Don't expect to get KBB on any decent XJ. They will usually go for more money if they are in decent shape. I got a '96 for just $900 that ran and drove fine, but it had rusted floors and wouldn't pass Virginia inspection. It was a one owner, and the guy lived in an apartment and couldn't work on it for something like that. So, you can get lower than KBB, but expect to put some work into it.
Where all were you stationed? I worked on 130s for three years at Rhein Main AFB in Germany. They are neat planes.
Good luck!
