Newbie, got a free XJ
My in-laws gave me a '93 country with a blown head gasket. I am going to build it for mostly a trail/hunting rig. The engine has 250k miles, it has been rebuilt but its been quite a while. I think I am going to swap in a 4.0 from a wreck instead of change the gasket, have the head worked, etc. I'm looking into which year engines will fit. I know the accessory mounting was different on some years. Also, I wondered if I got a newer (OBD2) wreck and had the computer and all how hard it would be to swap in an OBD2 motor.
Future mods will be somewhere between 3-4.5" lift, 31.5 treadwrights (MT/R tread) on 15x8 soft 8's, L&L front winch bumper, thinking about camo stencil paint job. Lots more I'm sure. I am from Arkansas and the Jeep is there, I am stationed in Virginia so I will only get to work on it a couple times a year when I am home. That gives me time to stock pile parts to go on though. I have already found lots of good info on the forum, glad to be here!

Free is the perfect price. Welcome aboard.
Ty for your service btw.
GL with the build up, sounds like you have a good idea of where you want to go from here.

Congratulations and thank you for your service to this great nation!
I would be tempted to put a head gasket on it and see if it smokes bad or not. It might be fine and a head gasket is much cheaper than a used engine if it runs. Do you know for sure that is the original engine in it now? It may have less miles than the chassis on it.
