New guy here and owner of a 2002 Grand Cherokee. I needed a winter vehicle just in case we get a bunch of snow this season in upper Illinois. I sold my 09 Nissan 2 door coup and bought this Jeep for 1700 and have put an additional 2600 back into it for front end parts and labor. It needed balljoints, front hubs, cv boots and front end alignment It has the 4.7 engine with supposedly 164700 when I bought it last month. I am just getting used to the beast and its big V8. It has a decent body but the under carriage is rusted bad. I found out quickly about the fuel tank skid plate and its rust being a safety hazard. I have only one dash code and it being the P0455 evap system leak large.I haven't changed gas caps but I think its at the evap canister maybe a dried brittle hose on it. The engine and trans appears to be fairly solid when accelerating and watching and listening to its shift points.Im still not sure on the 4WD working correctly. Well thats it for now...wish me luck thank you all for listening...

The WJ evap cannister is very vulnerable & the mounting brackets, no longer available, have been known to disintegrate. In view of what you say about the underside, I'd look at sooner rather than later -'sod it's not going to get any better.
