Default New from Minnesota

Hello all,

Name's Adam, from Minnesota. Been around the ATV and Diesel Truck worlds a bit. Work as a welder & fabricator, anything from cosmetic store brackets and counters over to structural I-Beams to automotive parts to massive construction equipment.

Been looking for a fun hack-it-n-modify project vehicle, and it just so happens a buddy has a '89 XJ 4dr 4x4 w/ 4.0L I6 Manual Trans that he wants to get rid of. Its in decent shape, needs some clutch work and sensor or two and a track-bar. Not a done deal yet, but we're working on it.

I'll post up a build thread once the deal is finalized.

Looking forward to bouncing some ideas off of everybody.

Thanks for the welcome.

bullettooth2008 - I don't have any pics yet. My buddy is going to take a few in the next couple of days and email them to me. May be a few weeks before I get it down here (its roughly 2 hrs away).

Flowpro - This will make the second XJ I've owned. In high school, I had a 87 Cherokee Chief, 4dr AT 4.0L 4x4. Never really did anything to it as it was before I was really into fabrication and wrenching. Now I wish I still had it, but I think this new one will be a better project. *Side note - I always had a soft spot for Iowa, born and raised (til about 8) in Okoboji area and Charter Oak/Denison area, before we moved to MN. *

I've got some ideas for what I want to do in the first phase of reconstructive surgery, lol. Main use is going to off/on Daily Driver when I don't feel like taking the Ram 3500 Dually Diesel, light to mild off-road driving, and sportsman's rig (hauling 14' aluminum boat to remote fishing spots and deep into the woods for deer, bear, turkey hunting).

First up, repairs: Clutch Cylinders replaced, new O2 sensor, track arm, and regasket the valve cover. Update/refit headlights to replaceable H4 bulb housings w/new harness.

Planned Modification List so far:
-Fabricate Front & Rear Bumpers
-CB & Antenna mounts
-Roof Rack w/ Light mounts
-3" Lift
-Remove glass from rear side windows and weld panel in
-Strip interior from cargo area and back of rear seats, skin with dynomat and stainless steel sheets.
-Fab and install Gun storage/carrier and fishing rod holders
-Repaint body, bedline rockers and bottom of doors

All that before spring fishing and camping season starts here in MN. Which means anywhere from Mid March to First part of June, depending on weather, lol.
