What’s up everybody! New here from Pennsylvania. So I bought this 99 Cherokee from Charlotte North Carolina. It had 171k miles on it 4.0 4wd. No rust which is awesome and definitely welcome. This will be a thread on some little things I have to do to it to get it all fixed up.
Nice! Pennsylvania also ! This makes me miss my 98. You're fortunate to find one so clean. My old xj was from outta state. Never realized how good i had it until I bought my grand cherokee wj locally. Pennsylvania winters haven't been kind to her.
So like a lot of cherokees the hvac controls were acting up. The symptoms were slow to change to vent feet etc. I had noticed an exhaust leak so first I changed out the manifold gasket shared by intake and my exhaust header. It actually made the issue a little better so that was a win. I then plugged off the vacuum line feeding the hvac at the hvac and the cruise control. Pulled vacuum with a gun. Held vacuum so I knew my issue was under the dash. Pulled the glove box and disconnected the connector for the controls. Plodded off black source port and again pulled vacuum. Didn’t hold. I ran a new line through firewall and reconnected at the connector. Hvac controls work perfect now. Reassembled in reverse order.

I have a loop like that under my hood. It's a bigger loop. Is that how it should be from the factory? I was thinking of cutting it down, but if there is a technical reason for having a loop, I'll leave it.
From previous Xj ownership I knew the switch had 3 positions. Off, wiper on, and sprayer spraying which is fully depressed and returns to wiper on. Pulled radio bezel. Switch panel and then switch. Carefully disassembled switch found white detent and spring wonky. Reassemble and now works as should reassemble dash.

I would just leave it if it’s not hurting anything but your ocd.
