Default New here, advice on buying older Cherokee

I'm new here, live across river from Portland, OR. I only have $2000 to spend, looking at a '91 to '96 Cherokee 4 liter, 5 speed or auto. My son-in-law is helping me look, he's a car guy and has owned a couple of older Jeeps. Any advice, things to watch out for, links to other posts would be really appreciated! Thanks

Welcome to CF from Dan in Tenn..
Besides the obvious rusty floors & rockers, check out the cooling and electrical systems thoroughly. Some have a history of overheating, and troublesome lighting issues. JMO.

It was pretty weak and it is kind of rare here in the states. I personally would shy away from pre-90 5 speeds as those years had the Peugot BA10/5 and they are also pretty weak. Just my opinion.
BTW welcome.

Well I drove and checked out about 12 rigs this past week and this morning bought a '93 Grand Cherokee Laredo, re-built tranny, 140K, not a ding or scratch on it, interior is practically immaculate. Has a few issues, passenger side window arm isn't hooked up or it's broken. Small leak in a power steering hose, possible leak to Lft front brake caliper, A/C not working, rear hatch struts worn out. New all terrain tires. Everything else works fine. Got it for $2000, whoo whooo, I'm excited. Be using it for commuting a couple times a week, supporting my furniture making hobby, fishing & camping, skiing in winter and maybe a little off-roading when I get lost! The two Jack Russells strongly approve.
