Hey guys my name is Sean. I have been looking into buying an older model cherokee for a while now and finally found one yesterday but have a few questions that maybe you guys can help with.

Specs of the jeep:

1992 sport
160,xxx miles
4.0 4x4 Auto
6" suspension lift
32.5x10.50 BFG MT

Before I finalize the deal what are some things I should look for as far as issues? I guess what I'm saying is if you were to buy a jeep tomorrow what would you look for?

I'm new to the jeep scene and don't know a whole lot about them. I owned a 1995 Bronco forever but sold it due to my family expanding but feel the need to get back into a 4x4.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Rust issues for sure i live in new england so thats the first thing also if its lifted 6 inched it was most likely used look for maybe bent tie rod or anything that doesnt look right under the jeep and check all the little things to make sure they work its the little things that add up not jeep stuff but general buying vehicle hints

Check the usual suspects like oil, coolant, trans fluid. Make sure you test drive ti and then check the fluids again after having drove it. Once I went to look at a firebird, and after test driving it I realized the car had a blown headgasket. Check for the usual rust in the floors and quarter panel.

Since its got a lift Id check for the following aswell:
-longarms or shortarms
-coils or spacers to do front lift
-leaf springs/aal/or rear blocks
-trackbar relocated or adjustable one replaced

depending on how it was lifted you might be able to use it as a negotiation point.

Also check to see if a SYE was installed and longer brake lines. . If not just know your probably gonna have to install one if you decide to buy it.

Check the motor and trans mounts, pull at least a few plugs and check coloration, if possible check cylinder compression, look for rear seal leak, have a buddy turn the wheel back and forth while the engines on while you look for play in the track bar. Play equals possible death wobble. As others have stated, find out what lift or what components are used to lift. Add a leaks, blocks, and pucks are generally not wanted.
Check condition of the leaf packs. Flat or sagged means you may need to replace soon.
Get it up to highway speed to check for vibrations.
