Default New Cherokee Owner

Hello everyone! Happy to report I just bought my third Jeep. First two were Wranglers. This time a 2001 Cherokee Sport, Inline 6, 4.0. Seems to be in great shape with 117,000 miles. I've heard you can drive them for 200-300k. So I'm hoping this one is in it for the long haul with me. I actually know the previous owner and I can say I'm about 99% certain this jeep has never towed anything and rarely been off the pavement. Garage kept. And all routine maintenence records came with it. So I'm really excited!

I live in Western Kentucky near Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley. This will be my daily driver so she'll be kept stock for now. But I don't think I could love this Jeep more than I do right now. I look forward to meeting some of you online and in the Lake area.

Sincerely,

Nick S

Welcome to the site. Very nice looking jeep, and yes if you keep up all maintenance this inline 6 will go a long ways. But watch for the cylinder head or block cracking. I dont remember what it was but it happens in a lot of 99-01's

Thanks for the warm welcome. I'm really excited to have a Jeep again. I loved the two Wranglers. Got rid of the first Wrangler because of some damage to the frame that wasn't worth me trying to fix. The second a 1998 Sahara, the ex-wife made me get rid of. Anyway, this is my first Cherokee. Still my favorite body style of Cherokees. Now for my first question.

I've had it through the shop already and had a mechanic friend go over it with a fine tooth comb. Nobody can see any problems. But Ive seen a ton of info on the "Cracked Head" problem with this model. Is there anything I can do to help prevent this? Aside from routine maintenance. Is it pretty common, or just more common than other problems?

I'm really hoping this can be a vehicle that I have forever. Because, frankly, this is the happiest I think I've ever been bringing home a vehicle. Thanks guys. I can't wait to see you on the road!

Thanks for such a warm welcome everyone. Had the towing package installed today. She's feeling more and more like mine everyday. Now I just have to name her....Hmmmm

From what I've read, most cracked heads were from late 99 to mid 2000. Due to a defect in the casting. Usually happens with overheating. Maintain/upgrade your cooling system and keep an eye on the temps
