Not really new to the forum but it’s been 8 years since I’ve had a Cherokee. I keep an eye out and normally when I see one I literally go poke holes in it and walk away. Well today that didn’t happen.
Drove by a small town dealer with a 98 on the way to meet somebody to sell some stuff. On the way I figured I poke it with a screwdriver and see how far gone it is. To my surprise I never found a soft spot. Then figured it would be a disaster under the hood, popped it and it was clean, then started it and ran like a champ. Fluids looked good, kept poking and prodding, everything works and I mean everything. A/c, front AND rear windshield washers, all the lights, stereo, no cracks in the dash or console, couple cracked cover panels around on the a pillar and rear pillar, but easy fixes. Test drive it and it just sits and runs 80 down the highway like nothing.
i would guess probably a valve cover gasket and/or rear main is due but that’s pretty par for the course as far as I’m concerned. 180k miles, new tires, I’m pretty happy. Great base to build from. Nothing crazy, probably just good baseline suspension kit, basically just to level, new headlights trailer hitch for the bike rack then get to work on the few cosmetic spots and the trim that goes around the top of the rockers, and all new fluids.
