Hey guys, I dont own a jeep yet, but I have a buddy that is getting rid of theres and I will more likely be buying it. This is just the normal standard intro thread.
I was looking at a 1997 4.0 Cherokee Sport Auto. It is a lighter shade of blue (im color blind so i cant really tell you exactly). The guy is done with it, and has other cars so hes letting it go for 500 bucks -- WHAT A STEAL!
It does need some TLC which is why I jumped on here, for some advice. It has a cracked windshield that will need replacing. I have that being looked into for a buddy, but does anyone have an idea of what that would cost? second, the carpet in the front pass and driver side rotted and caused pretty minor surface rust on the floor. The underside of the floor boards look to be in good shape. I will probably rhinoline the front half of the car (atleast) since the rest of the interior is almost immaculate.
My biggest concern -- The guy told me the tranny started to slip and he parked it. He says when he is in first gear from a stop or crawl, it will rev up until he lets go of the gas and then it will ease into second (no bang or clunk). I did some research and I believe this site told me its more likely just the TPC that is throwing off the transmission. Im hoping that is all it is because aside from this, the car is in great condition.
My plans for the car will be a little bit of off roading since i am on a bit of a budget while in college and working a few dead end jobs until im done learning. So i guess a small lift for now, although im not really sure whats out there yet. I am a n00b in the off roading field, but have been working on cars for years now.
I guess thats about it, feel free to kick some advice to me. Im about 20 miles outside of Philly, in doylestown. unfortunately there isnt too much around here to ride. anyone in this area?
thanks guys!

Windshield around $150.00. The trans issue could be: fluid and filter change, throttle valve cable needs adjustment, throttle position sensor (?)not likely.
