Hi Folks!
Some years back I had a 98 XJ. I did some light mods and it was my desert rig. I always regretted selling it and told myself if I ever came across a straight, unmolested XJ for a decent price I would get it.
Well, last week I came across this 2001 on CL. Now it's mine. I'll probably keep this one mostly stock. So far I'm just doing normal maintenance stuff, plugs, changing lubes, rotating tires, etc. I want to make it as reliable as possible for my desert trips.
Welcome back to the family... and to the forum....
I came from the foreign clan (Toyota) prior... but always had a love of older Jeeps... especially XJs.
I've had mine for 6 years now.... and out of all of the vehicles I've owned over the years... I simply can not complain about this mostly American made rig....
I've only had to put in several parts over my years of ownership... nothing crazy... normal maintenance of things that wear out on every vehicle....
And best part is I could do them all myself. Wife still wants me to sell it for a truck...but I've had it longer than I've known her...and just can NOT bring myself to ever sell it.
You did good by finding an unmolested one like I did.... yours being a 2001.... check the head and just keep an eye on the cooling system and you should be good.
Lots of great peeps here to help you out when issues come up
Almost from the moment I got my 1st XJ I've wanted an older Jeep, like a CJ2 or 3! Still do but, whereas, then they were expensive now they're same sort of money as MJ's (with a WW2 provenance) were then. Oh well, on a Summer's day I can dream.
