Just Another New Guy
Hello All,
I thought I would say hi. I am new to the form but not to Jeeps. My Jeep is getting up in years a little bit and I am starting to have little issues with it, So I thought I could read the forms and learn a little bit.
I am the original owner of a 1988 Jeep Cherokee Chief 4.0 with the BA/10 tranny.
Yeah I know it the tranny is the weakest link. I did alot of reserch before I bought the jeep and I knew the peugeot tranny would be a problem. I was stationed in England and ordered the Jeep threw military car sales. It seemed like every car that had a little bit of power in europe had tranny problems. I figured that the Peugeot tranny would never make it behind the 4.0. Well I was kind of wrong. I still have my original tranny and clutch after 80k miles. I don't drive the Jeep much because for the last 20 years I have been working in Kuwait. I only drive it when I go home on vacation.
Back when the speed limit was 55 I changed the gear ratio in both axles to 373 to 1(I wish I would of went with 355 to 1 now that the speed limit is higher). I think this took alot of stress off of the tranny. As of the last time I drove it it was working fine.
I haven't done many mods to it except the axle ratio and added longer rear leaf spring shackles because it was sitting a little low in the back. I also changed the terrible vinyl, which was cracking after 4 years to leather. I got a deal on some nice seats in Kuwait from a totaled limited.
Other than that its bone stock.
