Default Introduction

I'm a lurker who is finally posting. I've been admiring Cherokees for awhile and my son needed a reliable car, so I gave him my Mazda and picked up a one-owner 2001 Cherokee xj (per carfax) from Bob's Auto Ranch that needed a little TLC. It runs well, the tires were almost new and I've been doing the maintenance myself, including replacing almost all the fluids, tuning it up, replacing the shocks, leaking radiator, broken radio with a Craigslist Walmart HD/MP3/USB unit and put a new resistor in the heater blower motor. I did a homebrew air intake and spacer, seems a little stronger, but I mostly like the whistling sound.

I'm planning on doing the brakes, maybe front wheel bearings, replace the rusty front bumper and install tow hooks (mostly to tie down the canoe). I also have the parts to install an electric radiator fan. Trying to squeeze out a couple more mpg's.

It's mostly a commuter to the bus park and ride, but it has already gone camping. It could end up in the boundary waters or Canada this winter and next summer, the kids are guides. I might take it up to the State off road Trail in Gilbert, MN (http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/ohv/trail_detail.html?id=13) So there could be 31's and a 3 inch lift in it's future.

Lately it seems to be the car that leaves the driveway first, not bad for an 11 year old vehicle.

Note the holes in the canoe from skipping one to many portages. Welded up by the kids in the local FFA for a couple of dairy queen certificates. Maybe they'd build me a front bumper...
