I'm buying a Cherokee!
So I've decided to buy a new service vehicle for my small contracting company. Based on vehicles we already use, I think a Cherokee would fit the role we need it to well. Smaller, relatively powerful (more that a 4cy) decent towing capacity, and 4wd.
I found one locally with 295k on the dash and a bad auto trans for 1000. I already negotiated him down to 700. Here's the link:

I wanted to know a little about the truck before jumping into anything. Say for example, I buy the truck and transmissions are next to nowhere. Haha
Check it out and tell me if 700$ is a deal for its condition, or give me pointers!
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Awesome! Thanks for the input. I was considering the mileage on the engine as well and the more I think about it, I .might as well look at it like it will need an engine and trans.
I'll go on to other options. It seems like there are many. question about the auto trans. Im very biased and prefer a manual transmission over auto mostly any day. It seems as if most I see are auto so I should consider it an option. Are they good transmissions? I plan to tow with this truck
Any typical problems? Emissions?
Thanks again

you could always invest in a compression tester and test the sompression of it before you buy it, and if it's on the lower side talk em down....

id say $600 for that jeep would be reasonable but at the same time you could probly find one with much less miles and in better shape for maby a couple thousand more. minus all the headaches that would be involved with the high millage jeep.
Also, if you are looking for a manual your best bet in finding one would be on a 2 door model Cherokee, although i dont know if a two door would work for your purposes.

Thanks for all the help and welcome. I would prefer a 4 door for sure. Are the 5 speeds usually only in the 2 doors? And I've swapped multiple autos to 5'or 6 speeds before. Most of the time I swap ecu's to match. I'm assuming this the same dog and pony show with a Cherokee?
And when looking at jeeps, what are some warning signs besides a low compression test (I own two testers- one for diesel)
Most cars have their bad aspects or "watch out for" points. Thanks again!
