Howdy from Texas
Hello everyone. I just bought my 3rd Jeep. I grew up driving my dad's 92 YJ. Then I still own a 2007 KJ that I bought new. I gave it to my oldest son 2 years ago when he turned 16. And now I just bought a 2001 WJ for my youngest son who turns 16 in 2 days. I'm new to this site, but not to Jeep forums. I was a regular for years on LOSTKJ and KJ Country forums. The online Jeep community is great. Awesome place to both give and receive advice in maintaining and upgrading our Jeeps. Hope to be a contributor here too.
I found a really clean, low mileage 2001 Grand Cherokee Laredo, 79,500 miles, Champagne Pearl, that I could not pass up. I am 3rd owner. First owner was an 85 year old lady who traded it in to a local dealer a couple months ago. Second owner is a Jeep-Nut like me and has a man inside at the dealer that got him a deal on it the day it was traded in. Second owner bought it for a family member, who then decided they didn't want it after all. So he listed it on craigslist, and I found it. I ended up paying on the high side of KBB retail for it, but I'm OK with that since it so low mileage, and well maintained and fully documented.
Second owner did almost all of the typical PM on the Jeep that I would have done as soon as I bought it. Only things left for me were new shocks on all 4 corners, new rear window lift assist shocks (he did new hood and rear gate lift shocks already), and I chose to put new tires on it. It had 225/75-16 Goodyear Wrangler ST tires, but I'm not a fan of that tire at all, and I prefer wider tires too. So I had some 245/70-16 Cooper Discoverer RTX tires installed yesterday.
I can already tell form the minimal reading I have done here so far, that I am likely to have a head problem some day, since I have a 2001 with I6 4.0 engine. I Assume it has the 0331 head. I'll take care of that when it happens, unless there is something I can do to prevent it? My son that is getting this Jeep just helped me do a full top end rebuild on my wife's 2003 suburban a couple months ago, so he's already got head-work experience, and of course, I will be helping him with it when the time comes.
Any other words of advice for me?
