Howdy, all. New 1996 Cherokee owner.
My name is Justin, and I just bought a 1996 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4x4 with 105k miles for $2800. This is actually my third Jeep and my 2nd Cherokee; though I owned my last Cherokee about 12 years ago until someone thought it was too long and shortened it by about 6 inches in an accident.
My latest Jeep was a Liberty that crapped out on me at exactly 105k miles - and I sold it as it sat to completely pay for my new XJ.
The new Jeep is in great shape - the interior is fantastic with all of my power locks and windows working, the paint is in great shape, minus a few chips and scratches (it is a 100k vehicle). The truck drives like a dream and is really the nicest Cherokee I've seen in a while - and believe me, I spent a month looking at piles of garbage before I found this one 500 miles away. I wish it were a 5 speed, like my old one, but I'm ok with the auto.
I do have one question; what is the normal operating temp for one of these in traffic? Mine seems to be a bit high in stop and go with the AC blowing - but "high" is just a hair above the middle.
Finally, since pics are what we all want, here we are.

Justin, Welcome to CF from Buck in western Washington state. Your Temp. sounds about right for idling in traffic with the AC running on a hot day. I recommend one of the first modifications anybody should do to a Cherokee is to install an after market 3 core radiator. You can get them from a few different sources but, I got mine from CFS radiator. That should totally eliminate your cooling issue. Cherokees for the most part just don't do good in hot climates with their stock cooling system and the stock radiator is a plastic POS to put it quite simply. It sounds like you don't have any of the typical XJ cooling system problems like rust plugging, air bubbles, stuck T-stat or stuck heater valve. i believe the new radiator will fix you right up.

Actually, it has a new radiator in it - at least according to the guy I bought it from. I dont' know if it's an upgrade or a stock replacement.
