whats up guys, i'm new from Nashville, TN. I'm not new to cherokee's, but decided to hop on this board, seems like a good place. I've had a bunch of cherokee's i've played with over the years, and just picked up a 91 to do some easy wheelin with. I'm a big LSX guy, I work on ls powered cars for a living, vettes, camaros, ta's GTO's trucks and I do a lot of LS swaps. I'm sure i'll drop a 5.3 in this xj one day

Heres the xj, nicknamed Bearclaw.... and listening to Indian Outlaw one day and thought it was a funny nickname. Picked it up bone stock with 216,000 on the body and 50k on a new 4.0. I craigslisted some 31x10.5s and wheels, along with a Pro Comp 4in lift. Its ugly but all there. Hope the wheels stay together

I just mean the clear coat is all screwed up! Even though i'm gona scratch it up, it will be painted. I have a nice color between the factory blue, and the light blue metallic that cam on some xj's, maybe 88ish?

I have a lot to do, fab up front and rear bumpers, a winch, roof rack, trimming with stock flares, and bumpstops. headlights with HID,s fog lights. I wish I could find some spotlights off a cop car too.

Needing a bunch of little things done right now, need to Weld the rear or just grab a minispool. do they make minispools for a 35? I've always just welded up and went.

I found out tonight that I def need some bumpstop mods in the rear, I think a spacer is in order, it stuffs the 31 hard at full flex. Here I go taking an easy wheeler and wasting time N money! lol

I'm gona throw in a s10 main leaf to help my sagging rear springs, then a shim is gona be needed, then the front is gona be too low...damn it goes and goes

I said screw it and welded the rear. I know some people frown on it but I know it works just fine and it was free99. Its just a pos rearend anyways, plus, it don't hurt to do it, you can still take it apart.

I went and tested it, and I can go everywhere in my usual local spot in 2wd now

it looks like a glob but really its not, I welded up the four corners (welded the axle and roller gears together), then I welded the gears to the housing, then I did a little extra. I doubt this will ever break, it will def break an axle first.

I think you'll be fine for a while on 31s
I mean, depending on how you wheel it. It probably wont
survive in rocks too long tho lol.
Ive been runnin 36s on my welded 35
with 488s and wheel mostly mud,and some sand
Im kinda playing Russian roulette with it lol.
And theres another guy on here runnin 38s on his turdy5
As soon as it dies ( and its probably soon, Major roar at speeds )
I want to throw in a 8.8, Possibly the one in our 97 merc.

8.8 are awesome for a cheap upgrade.

I think mine will be fine, i've broke a lot in the past on rocks..I know the secret now, just gota have less beer, less skinny pedal, more patience!

btw I cant believe how good the ring and pinion looked after 216,000 miles
