Default Hello -- and Questions -- From a Newbie in Pasadena, Ca.

This seems like a nice, friendly place -- as opposed to most of other car and motorcycle forums I've belonged to.

I just became the far-from-proud owner of a base 1990 Cherokee. I'll post some pix in the next day or two and you'll see why I say 'far-from-proud'...

About 9 months ago I lost my '92 Nissan 300ZX when the engine seized and it was too much $$$ to replace. I've been 4-wheel-less since -- though I still have my 2000 Triumph Speed Triple m/c.

Recently my 87 year-old neighbor came to the conclusion that he was too old to drive when he could no longer lift his left foot to work the clutch and offered me his Jeep. Over the years he'd managed to bang up every inch of the vehicle, smash every lens and completely ignore basic maintenance. He's also parked it outside since new and would usually forget to shut the windows when it rained...

But it only has 62,300 miles on it and actually drives like a charm. Like my Dad taught me -- you NEVER look a gift horse in the mouth...

So here's my question: what are the best overall replacement parts manufacturers? I've been trolling for new tail light assemblies, door cranks, tail-gate lift rods, etc, and keep seeing either Crown or a company called "Replacement." I've been finding the best prices at US Auto Parts Warehouse and Car Stuff.com. (I think, though, that they may actually be the same company as their prices are identical.)

Anyway, are Crown parts better than the rest or is there a better company for body parts? Same with mechanical pieces?

That's it for now as my main job is to get the Jeep running safely and not looking like a total embarrassment.

Thanks in advance for any and all advice.

Best,

CJ Green

No, not the guy picking up your tail lights. If you don't mind, though, I'd be curious what you sold them for since I'm in the market and the new ones made by Crown and Replacement are super cheap. (Like $34 a pop.) If you'd rather, send me a PM...

And what's the "ROF" acronym? Not sure how it would mean "rolling on floor" or "Ring of Fire" -- maybe "Rotting Off Frame"??? Hey, I'm the curious type.

And thanks for the welcome...

Best,

CJ
