Hello from Lake Tahoe, CA
Not new to xj's just new to building one... I had a 95 sport that was stock except for some all terrains I threw on.
I just purchased a pretty beat 96 for $500... I think it was a goverment car before it went to civilian use. It's all white, zero options, and has 230k on the odo. A new motor was put in about 2 years ago. But everything else seems to be very worn in.
Would love some opinions on what to do with it... I know they wheel great in stock form from expierences with my last one. But this one I was thinking could use some slightly bigger tires 31/10.5 and a small lift just to make sure those don't rub. Also just about every bushing will be replaced.
I could also use this forums opinions on how to make it suck up some washboard fireroads?
Cheers,
Skidder

Yup, I've been looking at the plethora of lift kits in the 3 inch range and it's kinda hard to determine which ones are crap and which ones are not. I'm gonna stick to smaller lifts and probably trim the fat away from the tires when need be. Kinda thinking I'll want bigger tires within months of buying 31's... but running bigger tires will increase costs exponentially. So this is all open to suggestion till I get inspired in one direction.

I was gonna just get some MT's... but the Goodyear Duratrac caught my eye cause it had a good snow rating. Since I work at Sugarbowl and we get 500 inches average I kinda figure snow capability shouldn't be overlooked. Also the main reason for getting the XJ is to save my WRX from all that snow.

So I took delivery of the Cherokee on Saturday... so I'm finally able to put up some pictures. The XJ came with some black steelies and bald 235/75/15's.
Spent the weekend playing with it... The body seems pretty clean, I did notice that the drivers side carpet was wet so I pulled that up to find some surface rust under there. I treated it with a wire brush and some krylon rust eliminator stuff. Sill have to pull up more carpet to see what I find. Also looks like the oil leak I have is the rear main, so I've got some work to do. Right now I'm calling it Exxon Valdez.

welcome from gardnerville. I have 31 10.5's and a shackle lift is all. they do rub but I think with the wheels you have and a 2inch spacer lift in front you might not rub at all. I did trim my fenders and roll my rear quater panel but that was because I like the look. sugarbowl is awsome and I plan to get to the slopes at least once this year we just need some new snow to cover all that ice we got now. I say go big on it and put some 1 ton axels and 35's full exo cage and chop the top but thats just me. at least bed liner something on it.
