Hey all. I just found this site this evening, after having finally bought my first Jeep*,a '98 Cherokee Sport. Looks like a good group and I LOVE the new (to me
) Jeep.
Transplanted from 2 hours away in VA,living in Bristol TN (about 6 miles from Bristol Motor Speedway, shame I don't get into Nascar, huh?
Well,I go drag the Wife's car on street fight nights at their "Thunder Valley Dragway" there,so it's all good, hahaha! 6th Gen V6 Camry, looks stock, runs high 13's with just a chip and muffler swap, while getting 26-30MPG's ),40 year old "legally disabled" Veteran here, which means I'm a glorified Mr. Mom/house"wife",but am an avid cyclist when not having issues with old injuries and get to spend every day with my kids,so that's all good too.
Just bought this today...

(note: yes,we own and live in a trailer, and no it isn't trashy
)
I'd been threatening to buy a Jeep (an XJ specifically) for several years, but whenever push came to shove on car-shop days,I always seemed to find things, low, loud and fast instead. We went out to look at a 1 owner '97 ZJ Limited, but after driving it realised it had a few issues I'm not able to tackle myself (plus she didn't like it),and noticed this guy sitting there with dealer tags on it-it's the ride the owner/dealer had been driving home every eve for the last few months. A test drive was taken,a deal was struck and now I'm the proud owner of my very first Jeep
I'm not one to leave things stock, but budget's tight this year (with kids a'growing),so mods may be really slow to come, but that's ok,I'll keep this until it falls apart, then rebuild it,and I'm fine rolling it stock-ish for now
Nice to meet y'all in advance

Thanks guys
and BatmanXJ,LOL,yeah,it's cleaner than my Wife's Camry's was when we bought it last year, with only a few thousand miles on it and after the Toyota dealer had detailed it
It won't stay that way for long though,I'm sure

LOL,hilly,yup-but coming from the colad field about smack-dap in the middle between Pikeville KY,Bluefield WV,and here in Britsol (was about 1.5 hours to either there in Mavisdale,VA),the hills aren't so bad....Breaks Interstate Park (on the VA/KY border) were my local trails before moving here. I'm a SS'er at heart though, and rail trail on big wheels (29"er),my CX bike has gears, and I'm building up a Surly Troll as we speak with gears to use for bike camping (I have an Xtracycle, but it's just overkill,so I'll put it on eBay).
2013 On One Inbred frame,Manitou Drake 100mm air fork,Truvativ cranks (32t) with WTB Speed Disc wheels on Sram hubs with Avid bb7 discs and Surly 22t cog
1 gear, disc brakes and either rigid or lockable fork makes a good snow bike too

Thanks,Tony
Fedex delivered the new hitch a few minutes ago (no time to do the ">30 minute install" today though),so it will be hauling the new bike (that UPS finally delivered to the bike shop after having ordered 15 days ago...) home by Friday
:icon_cheesygrin :
Now I think I'll order up a Proline Jeep Cherokee XJ body for my Axial SCX10 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, and all the planets will be aligned

During my hike on the AT from Springer mt. to Damascus last year, I constantly found myself wishing I had my jeep...little more hilly there than Kansas. Nice clean jeep btw!

Thanks, after being up underneath for an hour or so today,I found it really is clean, all the way from bumper to bumper, methinks it's been a city-jeep/mall crawler it's previous life,LOL,but we sure likes it
Just a tid bit hillier, methinks. Kansas has some awesome scenery IMO. I've wanted to ride the route that they race the Dirty Kansa 200 for quite a while (bicycle race,if you've not heard of it,a quick Google should pop up lots, basically a 200 mile gravel suffer-fest...which is why I want to "ride the route",not race it
). We ride through Damascas when we ride through and back the Virginia Creeper trail (son and I,the women in my household don't ride much),always stop at that one diner for a mid ride meal
