greetings from Texas....
another Texas jeep build about to kick off here... here is the before, out behind pop's shop, awaiting it's new front sheetmetal.
after further review, have decided to make this my xj forum home...
'92 XJ totally stock... 4.0, AW-4, np231, dana 30 and an 8.25 rear end (nice little bonus there)... no rust.
my bro spikemike found it out on his dad's property up in central TX, repainted it (spike won't drive a green vehicle) and drove it for a bit, then i bought it and my daughter drove it in college the last two years... got banged up on the front end, but nothing serious...
this mule will hopefully have about 225hp out of the stock 6, with a few mods.... ordering the rustys 3" lift, and going with 30x9.50s...... as we are leaning more toward the 'expedition' style of beef up. this thing will see a lot of road miles on the way to a lot of sand, carrying a LOT of gear, towing a small skiff on adventures along the Texas coast. my xterra mule worked pretty well in the sand after i tweaked it a bit, and i know this thing is going to be even better. the debate is still raging over whether or not to run 31s on it or not...
no rocks, it might see a bit of mud, but sofffft sand. ANY SUGGESTIONS, HINTS, ETC. for this type of build WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED...
first parts on will be the lift....welded, stainless tube roof rack, 3/16 steel front and rear bumpers with receivers on both ends, spare tire rack on the bumper... tires somewhere in there.. probably will get adjustable track arm and LCAs, beefed up steering stuff, as well.. and fab up a new crossmember to get the transfer case a little lower...
funny... i swore off Jeeps a long time ago.... well, i've got a plasma cutter, wire feed hobart, and a big stick welder gathering dust, so away we go. i hope spike doesn't get too upset with what i'm about to do to it..
i've already learned a lot from you guys, but i'm sure i will have a lot of questions, this is my first XJ.... however, i'm no stranger to jeeps... let's see, i've owned a '69 jeepster halfcab with a 400 small block chev and GM 4speed into a dana 300 pushing 33s through dana axles... an '83 SJ two door laredo cherokee... warmed up 360, maybe 2" on 31s... (and various other chev powered hotrods) i'll try to dig up a few photos of those... still have the old 4banger wrangler of sissy's...
on my off days we run a flats boats around chasing redfish on the fly rod here in Texas, surf, camp, etc... and i will be starting a new skiff build here in a month or so, depending on how much i get done on this thing...
one time-consuming project at a time, please!

heheh.... also... if you look closely in that photo, you can barely see the cab of dad's last chevy luv... a fire breathing 450hp small block, tweaked TH350 with a big stall, into a ford rear... that thing was absolutely terrifying to drive...
sadly burned down behind the shop last year... dad is a custom cabinet and furniture craftsman. the 'stain and solvent rag drum' was a little too close to the truck when it lit up, and poor casper is now toast... well from the firewall back, that is.

yes.... i think i'm suffering from a relapse.
i have a soft spot for anything Jeep... it's all dad's fault.
Browny, your Jeep really is sharp.
i'm overwhelmed by all of the quality builds/rides out there... every imaginable combo of XJ... i guess when you build 3 million of something, there is going to be a residual effect, eh? i just picked up all of the 'nose' parts for this one for $100.... fenders and flares (and pool noodles) might be had tomorrow...
... steel is on the pallet, i just haven't had time to go get it!
question:
how do you guys do this? do you start a 'build thread' and post progress? do you link to a blog?
