Default Fresh blood! Opinions needed!

Hola amigos!
I live in High Point NC. I recently got 'Jeep Fever', and ready to take the plunge. I have been reading the forums about what year is good, and what year is bad for the Jeep Chero kee. I currently have 3 daily drivers; '99 Nissan Frontier, '92 Mercedes 300D, and a '70 VW Camper. I don't really need another vehicle, but I don't own anything with 4WD, so here I am. I'm looking to spend around $2500, and then 'just empty every pocket'! I have looked at many Jeeps, from 1990-2001. Today, I came across a 2001 with 179k, original owner. He said cylinder 5 is fouled and antifreeze is mixing with oil. White Jeep, nice exterior, interior needs headliner, non smoker, good tires, zero rust, zero surface rust, very clean body, 4WD and tranny works great, runs and drives, new water pump, new radiator, new belts, all power and cruise, everything works...$500 Firm. When he rebuilt engine, he did not machine the used head. Is this worth investing in? I've read that the 2000-2001 engines have multiple issues. I've read that these motors suck ***, and less HP. Can I install a used motor from a '98 model? Your opinion means the world! Thanks.

Welcome to the forum. If the damage to the lower end bearings are minimal. U can just grab a head from 2002-2006 4.0's. They are direct swap in and require no modifications. Make sure they are TUPY heads.

U can also grab older engines, but I still would put a tupy head on it cause of the manifold line-up and etc.

Grab a head from a 2002-2006 4.0L what? Jeep Liberty, Grand Cherokee, Wrangler? Just from a 4.0L engine. Would you recommend buying one from a junkyard or brand new off Ebay? Would there be any other modifications? Will the new head match up with the block and exhaust manifold? Thanks.

only vehicles that had a 4.0 past 2001 were the grand Cherokees and wranglers.

The new heads ll bolt up without any modifications

Update, the owner of the 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport that I was planning on buying couldn't find the title. So, we went together to the tag place to replace lost title and transfer to me, and he found out that there was still a lien on his vehicle that he forgot, LOL. He hasn't returned my calls since then. Still on the hunt. So, I found this gem; 1987 Jeep Cherokee. NO rust, tilt wheel, cruise, a/c, auto, 4x4, 4.0L, body is nice, interior clean, headliner down, non running. Owner says ran when parked 10 years ago, 178K miles. He is asking $1000 as is. Pictures coming.

I need help with an offer. This guy is 78 years old and thinks his vehicle is in great condition. He put brand new tires on it 10 years ago, and didn't drive it, lol. It doesn't drive or run, he thinks it needs a fuel pump....it does....and everything else. This Jeep is in excellent shape. I looked it over very well, and found no rust or surface rust anywhere, unbelievable!
