Ex-lurker
The name's Jim, and I've been lurking for a couple of months after buying my 2000 XJ, mostly searching for tech stuff on maintenance and improvements, and figured I should join now that I have some free time to read and post.
I'm from Texas, just moved to Abilene from Yakima, WA - my work takes me all over and we just spent a year or so in the NW. I was stationed here in Abilene from Jan 87 - Oct 90, so it's a familiar place.
I sold Jeeps and quite a few others - the dealership had 11 brands - back in 1992-1994. I have a 3" lift, looking to go with a 4.5" long arm setup, and I'm running 31x10.5x15 Goodyear Wrangler Authority tires - cheap and good, only at Walmart... but this is the first Jeep I've owned, oddly enough.
I do expert witness work in automotve legal cases, mostly lemon law and breach of warranty stuff... and I'm always happy to answer questions about my field.
I'll caution you that if you've significantly modified your ride, don't expect warranty coverage, so we can set those questions aside from the beginning.

Welcome!!!
I do have a question for you though. My neighbor bought a used BMW from a dealership in Virginia. He tried to get it inspected and registered in MD but it failed. He purchased it less than 30 days ago and the water pump blew up (which the dealership replaced). The rotors are bad and he is experiencing engine bog on acceleration. He really just wants to return it with no loss of money. Can he do that? The dealership refused and "offered" him a buyback but he will still lose a couple thousand. Any suggestions or help is appreciated! Oh and...post some pics of your jeep!

Back to your friend's car - small claims court is his only avenue if the dealer in VA doesn't step up and handle the issues. He needs to schedule a meeting with the dealership GM, and pretty much all dealers give at least a 30 day warranty, and that's the document to lean on here.

I love the tires - I knew I wanted a 31, and always used Tire Rack or Discount Tire Direct, but the cheapest I could find for off-brands was $180-190 a tire. These were $148 at Walmart, and cheaply mounted and balanced..plus you get the lifetime rotation. That is, if you don't mind the Walmart monkeys working on your stuff... but I guess they're no worse than Discount Tire monkeys.
Here's a little better shot:
The wheels are Procomps from Summit Racing @ $99 each, 15x8 w/3.75" backspacing.

Welcome to the forum. I also went to walmart to buy those tire. Had my heart set on them and the walmart refused to sell me the size tires I wanted. They would only put the original sized tires on it. I could have brought the rims up and have it done but didnt.

Thanks - I lived here 22 years ago for 4 years when I was active duty, but I was into fast cars, not 4x4s back then.
I need to find some trails, and what I'd REALLY like to do is SCCA rallycross - I raced autocross for years, and I don't see a reason that a Jeep without a radical lift couldn't do rallycross.
