Hey All,
I'm from Southern Illinois and made a spur of the moment decision to buy a 96 Jeep XJ. A guy I work with was selling it and I figured "why not? I don't have enough projects in my garage." If you guys are anything like me than you know that's untrue. I have a garage full of incomplete projects and little time since I normally work 60 hours a week.
Anyways, like I said I bought a 96 XJ Sport with 253xxx miles for $900. Mechanically everything seems to be in working order from what I can tell. I've only put about 50 miles on it since I picked it up due to the death wobble. It needs some new shoes and an alignment. Cosmetically it needs some work and I've wasted no time. The headliner was shot, it smelled awful and the carpet is filthy which probably contributed to the odor. I've stripped the interior and started cleaning what I could. Both bumpers are bent, windshield is cracked, broken headlight bezel and your normal dents and scratches. It's definitely been wheeled a time or two. My plan is to get the title situation straight, slap on some tires and drive it while I make some repairs and upgrades. Gonna hit the local junkyards tomorrow to look for some bumpers, door handle and a few budget mods. I've been searching some forums and already have plenty of ideas. Definitely want to lift it a bit to start. Upgrade the injectors and some other various things. I'm sure this will be an ongoing project but I definitely have the bug and I've been searching forums ever since I made the decision to buy it.

a jeep is a great project, and the fact that mostly everything is fairly easy to get a hold of and that a lot of stuff is cheaper to buy for the jeep than most other trucks, you'll have a great time modding it.

Welcome to cherokee forum. It's always nice to see another 96... good year, what kind of lift are you wanting to put on? A junkyard lift or do you have a company in mind. Good luck

Not sure yet. I was planning on putting a basted pack together in the rear and buying some coils for the front. I didn't want to spend too much just yet. I want to use this as a daily driver/toy. Any recommendations or companies I should use or stay away from?
