All LED's are installed. Very easy and I can finally see inside my XJ when I turn on my interior lights.

 

I got my set today and installed them. Man what a difference and exactly what was needed. The pics makes them look a little too bright but they are perfect. The dome LED took some pinching with the needle nose to get properly secured and a couple of the contact had to be pinched on some other lights but I am 100% happy.

Nope. Dimmer won't work with LEDs, at least not in any consistent or useful manner. It's a small price to pay. I don't miss it at all with the interior lighting (the ones that come on when a door is opened).

The dimmer is most useful for the instrument lights, but the set doesn't include those. If you were to do instrument panels, installing blue or green lights generally works out well. They are very visible in the dark, but they aren't 'blinding' in any way. This is especially true with the blue, as it's almost a 'dark' blue light, if that makes sense.

 

Glad it worked out. I worry about the contacts on those dome light LEDs breaking during install. I'm glad to hear it worked out!

If anyone has the 97+ dome lamp kit with map lights that are on the blue side, shoot me a message. It took me a few months but I was able to get whiter lights as someone suggested. This also applies to the 84-96 overhead console lights.

I spread the contacts on the dome light before installing and they clicked into place.

My intent all along... night blindness!



I've got lots going on regarding lights, but most of it is business related. I'm basically trying to get all the systems in place that I need before I start stocking the 30+ different lights and color variations needed to do instrument sets. I realize I've been saying pretty much the same thing for the last four or five months!

There really is a lot to learn!

First, I though I just needed to automate the order taking system instead of getting everyone's info and populating it into paypal and trying to match that info to the sometimes unrelated forum user names.

So, I got a website. Easy? Kinda- but then I realized I should probably look semi-professional. More work.

Then I realized that I needed a way to track inventory that didn't involve regularly counting hundreds or thousands of LEDs to figure out what I would first run out of. I got that figured, finally!

Then I realized that I needed a way to efficiently add my items for sale to a website and other avenues.

Oh, and I need some way to make sure that when I sale something in one place it is noted in the inventory for all places.

Then I realized that I'm gonna have to pay taxes at some point on "I'm-not-exactly-too-sure-what" so I should probably figure out a way to account for expenses, incomes, inventory values, etc.

Oh... and I also want to improve packaging...

Brain Hurts.

 

Did you ever get anywhere into developing a set for the WJ? I have a friend very much jealous of the excellent lighting myself and another friend have thanks to your sets.

 

I pulled light housings from a WJ yesterday while I was there getting an XJ part. Since the WJ isn't CANBUS and the bulbs are similar to XJ, ZJ, and TJ bulbs it shouldn't be a problem.

My concerns are ensuring that the glove box LEDs I have are small enough to fit the enclosure and that the floor well lights are either bright enough to use with the stock cover (ideal) and disperce light well enough to evenly light the area up.

Also, I know there are different light fixtures (mostly OHC but maybe others) depending on the trim of WJ but the three at the yard all had the same parts... I need to do some research on that.

The overhead console lamps, cargo lamps, the lamps above the rear doors, and visor lamps all look like they should work with LEDs I already have in stock. I'll figure out what I can tonight or tomorrow and post any updates here.

I'll be gone Friday-Monday doing weekend warrior stuff - something about C4 and telephone poles.

Do you have a how to for the 96 and lower guys with the center consul (specifically a 1990)?

I for some reason can't get that sucker down to verify bulb sizes and would like to know what I'm getting into before I purchase.

 

I checked in at wjjeeps.com (amazing resource for WJ owners) and compared the info there with what I saw at the yard. The OHC, ash tray, glove box, and the lights in the doors all have housings that aren't deep enough for the lights I have in stock.

I'm early in the planning of it, but I'm seriously considering running a pre-order campaign through tilt.com. I'll likely need to raise at least $3000 between WJ interiors (white), 84-96 Instrument sets (white, blue, or green), and 97-01 Instrument sets (white, blue, or green) before I can place the order.

The expensive bits are the custom made WJ lights and the custom made parts for the 97-01 XJ HVAC panel.

I didn't when you asked, but I kinda do now.

As long as the plastic isn't super brittle... my junk yard part isn't, push/pry in on the tab as shown and then pull down on that part. After that, pull forward and down a bit to get the other end out. Once the plastic lens is out, take to the kitchen sink and give it a good dish detergent bath. Lastly, check that the LED works before reinstalling the cover.

Let me know if you have any questions. And I congratulate you on having an older model Cherokee with the overhead console. Out of nearly 200 sets, I've sold maybe 4 for that combo.
