I have access to a 5.2l v8 that was taken out of a zj, they say it has just under 150,000 miles and runs good. I have seen it on cl for some time and it is now only $300 so my question is- has anyone done this spacific swap and if so can you shed some light on the details for me?

I'm sure it can be done, but you won't gain much for all of the work required and it may not be smog legal in your area. Your 4.0 was rated at 190 horsepower at the crank, the 5.2 was rated at 225 horsepower at the crank. It would be more cost effective to replace the intake manifold with a manifold from a 99+ 4.0. I've read about horsepower gains from that swap to be between 19-25 hp improvement.

Well ya I know it could be done and all. Idk maybe it would just be kinda cool to have a v8 in it even if it doesn't have a big pay off. If I had the money I'd love to do like a 6.1l swap but that's not going to happen

the 5.2l has many fitment issues and is not worth the Pain in the butt to do the swap. just get a chevy LSX motor, and throw some EZ-EFI on it, done! (there is a little bit more to it then that) but you will be disappointed in the end with all the money and time you will spend on it.
