So, you actually use the Grand Cherokee part for the XJ?

I went to autozone/Orileys/Advanced autoparts.

I got 2 of them but the actual tie-rod long arm was the one I couldn't find.
I had them overnight it to the store, so i'll get it tomorrow.
But just want to make sure it's going to fit.

 

remember you can get the rod and sleeve at the JY and just get new tre's.

 

I just got mine and am painting them.
Correct me if I'm wrong but

1. I think yours is backwards. The adjustment is supposed to be towards the passenger side right? (thats how the stock one is on me XJ and how the zj was set up I took it off. Could be wrong though)

2. It IS supposed to be bent like that.

3. Don't go buy new tie rod ends unless you have too you can get Energy suspension boots for like 5 bucks a pair most places.

4. The TRE on one side is part of the Arm, It can't be removed. On the other end its a regular TRE then a adjustment sleeve.

 

are you experiencing any "dead space" in your steering wheel ?

 

i was stating that the pic of the stock xj tie rod is not supposed to be bent like that

 

i picked one up myself from the UPAP. the one i got had damn near new looking ends on it so it was a direct bolt in for me. at the JY, they refer to this part as the drag link (i think i paid about 15 bucks) just in case anyone was wondering. great budget upgrade. clay is right about the difference between the two. the zj tie rod is night and day better than the stock xj rod.

 

My bad. Just checking that mine is bent the right way.

 

im a lil confused why do you need two tre's? im pretty sure the rod has one fixed end and the other need the adjusting sleeve with the tre. so what am i doing with the left over tre???

He was referring to the long tie rod being the actual long bar, then the adjustment sleeve, and then the short (regular) tre. Takes 3 pieces to complete the upgrade. Hope that helps.

 

Rustysoffroad.com offers a 1.5" tie rod with .25 thick wall. It comes with tie rod ends on it already. It's a great investment, and its only 90$.

 

I did this like 2 weeks back, worked real good.

The tie rod and the tie rod end is all you will need . Got mine in a junk yard 14.00 bucks it was a nite and day diff.
