While look at my front axle u-joints I was just messing around, shaking things that aren’t really supposed to move but have a bit of play in them, and my front drive shaft has way more play than I think is healthy. I’ve been considering going to WJ style steering with the knuckle swap kit onto my D30 but if my front diff is already shot would I be able to just bolt in a WJ D30? Haven’t opened the diff cover to see how much metal is just sitting in the bottom but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was nice and glittery. I guess my main question is would it be easier/ more budget friendly to rebuild and upgrade my current D30 then do the knuckle swap or find some way to put a drivable WJ D30 on there? Any and all replies are appreciated and if any additional info is required lmk!

The WJ axle assembly is about 3” wider and the mounts are different. It will not bolt in without a lot of work.

No a WJ axle doesn't bolt in and it has a different wheel bolt pattern, a ZJ axle will bolt in.
