Default ZJ alternator in XJ?

I've heard you can switch the alternator from a Grand Cherokee to a Cherokee. I was wondering if there was a write-up someone could direct me to. I'm having trouble finding it. Or if its possible, just a quick explanation would be nice.

yeah, you have to take the alternator bracket off of the motor and put the bracket onto the alternator to see exactly where you need to grind. i did this back and forth for about 30 minutes until it fit perfectly. i think i grinded off about 1/4 inch. There is one spot that got hung up the most. You will figure it out when you get the alt though (really easy).
All i did was go to Oreilly and ask for a 1998 Jeep grand cherokees 5.2 v8 136 amp alternator and gave them my 90 amp as a core. I was afraid if i told them i was giving a 90 amp core for the 136 they wouldn't do it so they assumed it was a 136. oopps.
here is the link and part number

here is the site where i asked a few questions about it

I plan on doing something similar when I upgrade my steering box to the Durango box.

Done it, love it!!! got mine in a junkyard for $25! you can also pull them off a 98 durango. same place you get the awsome steering box. i can run all 4 roof lights, bumper lights, headlights, radio on blast, and A/C on high, still being above 12 volts. now that is at idle! once above 1100rpm's then i am back to 14 volts! now i have never run my winch with the A/C on, but my winch doesnt even drop it as low as the A/C does. i can run the winch on consant with all lights on and still read above 13v. got to love that GC alt!

only reason i have my quote is because i have a couple friends that love their fords but they break down all the time, i've towed them dozens of times in my chevy but i never had to call them to come get me.

mopar=slow car
Ford=fix or repair daily or
found on road dead or backwards
Driver returns on foot or
factory ordered road disaster

LOL
