Default XJ fan clutch on ZJ

Does anybody know if the XJ fan clutch 4.0 Will fit on my ZJ 4.0 ? I'm worried about the snout length & my 7 blade fan hitting something ?

I'm looking for a less aggressive fan clutch, my fan clutch just digested the bearings.

Thanks, nowr2run

I wouldn't recommend doing that because it may cause overheating issues. The Mechanical fan on the XJ is smaller, since it only covers half of the radiator, there is an auxillary electric fan that kicks on when you turn the AC on or coolant temp gets to high. A ZJ uses the clutch fan for the whole radiator, so it has a larger fan and clutch.

I know the fan is smaller that's why I said if it would fit my 7 blade fan. It's the oppositeof what everyone is doing but I have a larger Rad.
& a Trans. cooler. I don't tow or wheel this one. Thanks just seeing if my 7 blade fan would not hit any thing with the XJ clutch.

I've seen several vids of folks using ZJ clutches in XJs, but not the other way around

Yes I know but I want to see if I can increase fuel mileage & the ZJ fan clutch is
robbing me of some power & gas mileage. I can't find a local parts store
that has 1 in stock so I could compare the snout length ? Still looking for specs.
on the fan clutch of a 4.0 XJ. Maybe I'll go to a U PULL IT & see if it will work
this weekend ? I don't really want to go electric, Thanks for your reply, Nfadude.

It is a smaller fan clutch so it will fit, but that's not the issue. The ZJ was designed from the factory to use the fan clutch that came with it for an adequate amount cooling without robbing to much power, putting a smaller fan clutch on is asking for trouble. If your worried about fuel mileage you should have bought a different vehicle.

00t44e, I have a larger Rad. & a Trans. cooler in the ZJ so cooling should
not be a problem ? I know the clutch is smaller but what I'm worried about
is the length of the SNOUT, is it the same or shorter ? Will my 7 blade fan hit
any thing ? It's was my wife's daily daily driver before she took her own life at 49
yrs. old. I want to keep the Jeep for that reason & the water pump digested
it's bearing then ruined the fan clutch bearing. Yes I would like to get better gas,
mileage I think that's a NO BRAINER. I have my 60's Camaros & those I don't care
about gas mileage. Thanks for replying, SIR.

Thanks for replying, I guess ?
A larger radiator and transmission cooler doesn't mean you can add a smaller fan clutch, air flow from the fan is just as important either way. A fan clutch from a l6 or 4cyl XJ should fit, but if I were you I would get the one for the 4cyl XJ it's closer to the size of the ZJ clutch.

Well I ended up going with the HAYDEN 2796 Premium fan clutch, from what I understand it's closet to what my original one is ?

I know this one will fit so I just said " THE HECK WITH IT " I ordered it. Still going to experiment when I get to a U PULL IT YARD.

Thanks, guys.
