Hi, I've been on many xj forum's and I have found that cherokee forum.com is the BEST!! You guys have answered many of my questions about my xj that I've had! So I come to you today to ask another, my xj has a budget 3 in lift and I tow my 4 wheeler/ small camper, but her rear end sags low and I want to put on so air shocks. My question is with a 3in lift on I need a air shock that will fit the height of the lift. Monroe sales one for xj with a 21in max when fully out and that's where my shocks are now. is there another make or model like a truck shock that will work with xj? Thanks for any help I can get!

 

I'm going to x2 on this post. I was wanting adjustable air shocks aswell so I could adjust it for the terrain I am on... and if I am loaded full of tools in the back etc. Soft suspension for rough terrain, firm suspension for road driving. Or something like that, adjustable though

 

rancho sells fully adjustable all around shocks, it makes it stiffer or softer and has a wireless controller. hope this helps they are RS9000XL plus you have to pick up a couple parts from them like the controller and valve assembly

 

I have the monroe maxair shock and plan to use them with with 2"BB and barpin eliminators. I've had them for 4 months no problems and they've held up to -30 weather quite well. I installed the fill valve inside the jeep so it is quite easy to adjust on the fly

 

Thanks for the info guys,I talk with a friend and he said 95 f150 monroe maxair shocks will work for xj's but I have concerns about that one, any one know?

To my knowledge there is no SHOCK that will provide lift for the xj...
The rancho rs9000 is adjustable but its adjustable to make the ride softer or stiffer, if you want less sag when towing then you need to look at leaf springs..get a thicker pack with more leafs...this will sag less..but will also ride stiffer, and may not flex very well.

Shocks dampen the ride, not give you height.

Might want to consider doing a 2" lift. Use spacers for the front springs and I'd suggest OME 2" medium duty leaf packs. It's pretty cheap and doesn't require steering or driveline adjustments. Also, good shocks are important for a decent ride. Bilsteins are good.

 

He already has a budget lift..

My suggestion would be to get rid of your budget lift, and buy a lift with a full leaf pack in the rear... Shocks arent what you need.

 

D'oh! Good call. Agreed on going with a full pack..

 

Something with a heavier spring rate would be ideal.. id say Old man emu HEAVY packs.. but then your talking a bit more $ than normal..

If anything just going from budget boost to a full pack lift will help

 

I have personally used the Monroe max air shocks to lift the rear up. They work. Aired them up and it lifted the rear about 2 1/2". I had stock suspension, by the way. Not the right way to do it, but it works.
