Hi all,

I have a 2000 XJ 2.5l with AX5 transmission and NP231 transfer case.

I also have a 1997 ZJ 4.0l with 99% 42re transmission and NV249 transfer case, fully working vehicle that i want to use it as a donor.

Can i swap engine and transmission into mine? I am planning to keep NP231.
I know already that i will need XJ 4.0l motor mounts for sure and at least the low end mount of the transmission on the crossmember, or weld it somehow there.

The questions are:

What about transmission shifter position (is it gonna be at the exact spot where mine is atm?), bezel, cable, cable bracket?

Also what about the dash wiring? (Instrument clusters, airbags, immobiliser, a/c-heat switches etc.)

Did someone ever done it or is it a PITA?

I am asking because i cannot afford to buy a 4.0l and i cannot find a 4.0l in a junkyard also.

Very huge job to do that swap if it even will work with that trans.Honestly how cheap xjs can be i would find a 4.0 one and sell yours and the zj.

 

The market for 2.5's are fairly strong so I would sell that XJ and buy another.
