Wondering How Guys Have Handled Removing Old Battery Cables For The Upgrade Mod
When you guys have been upgrading your battery cables wondering how you have been removing the old cables?
Jeep in question is an '00 XJ.
Been wondering if you could cut off an end and pull it out of the loom leaving what you are not replacing intact.
Then just run the new cables separate from the original harness.
Thinking it is wrapped to tight and they will not pull through.
Maybe you guys are just cutting them off as close the loom as possible leaving what is left in there.
Then just routing the new cables separate.
Maybe you are going through all the trouble of unwrapping the harness and then rewrapping it with the new cables inside.
Obviously the goal is to do a clean looking install.
At least as clean as possible.

I think you'd have a very hard time pulling those cables out of the loom. TBH I think its easier just to slice everything open, replace the cable, and then tape/conduit back over everything again.

Your thinking way to hard on this. there are 6(H.O) or 7(renix) cables you will be replacing. the looming is there to protect the cheap factory acables. If you are using an aftermarket kit from K-suspensions or mean-lemons, those cables are made to be exposed in the engine bay and utilize welding lead. There's no looming required. it takes at most 15 minutes to swap the cables and install the ANL fuse.

That is what I think too but curious as to how people who have done the upgrade handled it.

People have cut ends off and left them in the loom. Others took the time to unwrap them.
Some also took extra time and used extra larger loom to cover the cables up after installation.
Personally. I cut the old loom up to pull the old cables out. I don't bother covering the new cables up, but I would take the time to cover the various thin wires with a smaller loom.

I’m a weirdo and I took the loom off and cleaned it and put it back over the new cables. If I had more money I would have bought some new look slightly larger. But I was satisfied with the outcome. Also the green wire instead of cutting the end off and crimping a connector on I cut the factory rubber block that it’s in to separate it from the main cable. I like things to be a particular way I guess. Also I used marine clamps on the battery.

I just ordered my cable kits from K-suspensions the 2 gauge ones so hopefully be doing it soon. Wonder if anyone has any pics on how they routed theirs? I heard the cables are longer then the OEM and may have to re-route them different. Thanks!
