would drilling out the rotors be the only thing different from a zj swap? i have a full set up for a wj so i figured it would be worth it haha

I'm not real familiar with the disc on WJs so you'd need to do some test fitting and measureing. As far as the 8.8 goes, I've seen way to many spin tubes and break shafts. I know people swear by them but talk to anyone running a drag car or tires over 36" and they'll tell you differently. If you're going to swap a c-clip axle why replace it with another c-clip axle?

Op the Wj mounted different. I also looked into this cause I pulled a rear WJ axle for a buddy not to long ago and was going to keep the brakes.
I think we still have a Wj in a yard by me, so I'll see about snapping some pics if its still there and some of a ZJ if theres a complete one for comparison!
8.8 vs 29spline c8.25 vs d44..thats the real arguement here!
8.8- 3.25" tubes, 31spline-1.3" thick, ring size 8.8" (can also be 27spline, pending the year you buy)
29spline C8.25- 3" tubes, 29spline axles-1.25", ring size 8.25"
D44- 2.65" tubes, ring size 8.5", 30spline axle-1.31" diameter
So when it comes down to it...8.8 is good for jeepspeed style stuff..housing won't bend, super stout! Not the best for crawling cause it'll spin the tubes even when they are welded!
C8.25 is just as strong as a D44, just a c-clip. All the axle diameters are about the same, they are all about even in strength, but they all have pros and cons!
8.8 is good for jeepspeed, super stout housing! Not best for true cralwers.
C8.25 is great because you can get one for about 100 bucks and great for mild wheels, will hold 35's stock axles-29spline!, I think of it as a camping, ExPo, mild crawler axle.
D44 non clip, smallest tubes, cost about 400 for a stock axle, I think of this as more of a crawler axle.
Honestly you can buy and build a c8.25 for 400. Same as the 8.8.
My honest opinion is that if you don't need anything deeper than 4.56's then the 29spline C8.25 is for you because a D44 cost way too damn much! I enjoy my 29spline c8.25 with 3.55's and a spartan...and I have disks and I'm still under 400 bucks

Anybody have more info on swapping backing plates from WJ D44a to 8.25??
I'm aware ZJ/KJ have 5x4.5... WJ 5x5... & the 8.8 swap (not interested, like Chief, I'd rather build my 8.25)
I've read, ZJ D35/44a directly swap to XJ D35, KJ 8.25 directly swaps to XJ 8.25, & ZJ D35/8.8 swap to XJ 8.25 with slight modifications...
So, would WJ D44a BACKING PLATES just need the same modification (boring the axle opening) as a D35 to 8.25 swap??

No write up that I've found, although I'm in the middle of working all this out for myself. The bore of the WJ backing plates is a bit bigger, the 8.25 axle tubes actually narrow down slightly to about 2.85" at the housing flange, and the WJ backing plate is about 3.15" (I think due to the 44a bearing pocket being larger).
