So every since I saw a picture of Jordan96's tablet/OBDII connector set up showing data in real time I have wanted one to play with myself.
Now my research seem to indicate that I would be better off using an Android type tablet and bluetooth.
Thing is I have iSimple gizmo that lets me play music through my factory stereo from my 160 GB iPod.
I am trying not to have multiple devices.
I found a 16 GB iPad 2 on OfferUp for $20.
In a case with a screen protector in great shape. USB cord and the set up to plug that in to an outlet to charge.
I was in need of an older iPad cause I needed the connector on the device to be the same as my 160 GB iPod.
My first concern was if the iSimple device would recongnize the iPad to play music.
It does.
So now I am trying to figure what would be a suitable wireless/bluetooth OBDII to buy.
My research seems to indicate that I can't use a bluetooth one even though the iPad does have bluetooth capability.
Something about only apple bluetooth products syncing.
Seems I would have to buy a wifi OBDII device to use with the iPad.
To be frank while not too technology challenged sometimes when trying to understand what I am reading my eye glaze over.
Does anybody have any insight to this?
Can anybody confirm that I have to use a wifi OBDII device?
Can I use a bluetooth one?
Anybody have any suggestions for one to use with an Apple product?
What would be a suitable app/program to use for a set up such as this?
The iPad is smaller then I thought but still pretty big. So setting it up to use while driving in a place that will not be in my way might be challenging.
One problem at a time.
To Jordan: Hey could you post a shot of your set up again on this thread?
I am noticing that this has both Bluetooth 2.0 and 4.0. Best I can tell the iPad has 2.1.
So I am wondering if people saying the Bluetooth won't work with Apple products is because
of the proprietary crap that Apple likes to pull or just a matter of what version of Bluetooth.
Plus this device does not get the best reviews.
One of the reasons I would like to use Bluetooth instead of Wifi is because you can't access the
internet on the iPad and use the code reader at the same time. Now that is not really a deal breaker.
I don't have a fancy phone or internet service when on the road. It would only come up if I have access
to public Wifi. And frankly probably would never come up. But I like having options.
