You can get a 8500 Rigged Ridge from a vendor here for $260 or less shipped.
Also, last week I found a Engo 9000 with synthetic line for $400 shipped.

Not that it really helps you, but I got my MileMarker SEC8000 from 4 Wheel Parts for $229 (on sale). I have since bought one of the Q11000 winches from Quadratec for my '76 Power Wagon. I got it for $394. I recently broke the spring in the load-holding brake and they shipped me out a whole replacement drum assembly for free.

Several people in my club, including myself, are running the Rugged Ridge 8.5k winch. No complaints from mine at all. Used it on myself and a few others. Only complaint is its been outside about 10 weeks and on the spool side it has sun fading and if input the cover on I don't get enough airflow into my radiator so i don't run it.
