synthetic is lighter, floats, very strong, safer if it breaks, easy to maintain. but, is more costly
steel is cheaper, little stronger. but, heavier, harder to maintain, pokes the **** out of you after its been used a few times, and can be dangerous during breakage.

I was told to get rid of my rope. The guy said they had a guy in their group that had rope and it broke 3 times. He SAID that it saw too much weather and got week. First time I've heard that. Anyone else?

Synthetic winch line is better in every situation than steel winch line except for someone that runs in mud all the time. Unless the synthetic line is washed out completely after every mud run the dried mud will be ground into the fibers of the line cutting them, and will end up destroying the winch line.
I'm older and love to go snow wheeling, trying to pull 100 feet of steel cable in 4 plus feet of snow is a real PITA. That and the safety aspect is the main reason I run synthetic winch line.

Another plus:
The other day I snapped my Warm synthetic line about 2 ft. from the hook. I simply respliced it and it's back on the jeep. Snap a wire line and you'll be buying a new one.

3/16? I've seen 5/16s, 3/8s and 7/16s, but never 3/16s, and Warn is probably the most expensive. I'm running Amsteel blue, but will probably replace it when the time comes with Smitty Built or what ever is good, but the least expensive.
