Your right that's always when you notice it breaks. Typically its corosion in my experience that kills the winch which could be detected with a simple test before you go out. You should never wheel alone. I know we all do it, but it is stupid. I always try to have at least two backup plans when I'm wheeling.

X2, I always bump test it both directions and unwind and rewind any crossed cables to lessen fraying while driving. My XRC 9500 is water resistant which also helps.

Franks prices on the Superwinch and the Talon are right on the money of what I paid for mine, they are a quality product 4 yrs. and counting on mine.

I'm running the x20 water proof wireless. I have been in the habit of rewinding after every trip just because I hate a nest of line in there.

I bought an Engo 10K shortly after they got 2nd or 3rd in a winch shootout done by a 4x4 mag. I forget which mag, its been a few years. Got the 10K with remote for about 400 shipped. Don't waste your money on the remote....

It's worked very well when I've needed it.

Came with a lifetime warranty on mechanical parts; 1 year on electrical.
